Hope Children's Hospital trains new pediatricians in a medium-sized residency program. Each year, 13 residents graduate to practice in the community or pursue further training in fellowships while 13 new interns join the program each July 1 to start their three year journey.

We have patient diversity both socioeconomically as well as ethnically. We are a referral center for a large part of Southwest Chicago and Northern Indiana and because of that we see a good mix of general pediatrics + sub-specialty. On all our rotations we work one-on-one with the attendings who are at Hope not just because they love kids but also because they enjoy teaching the residents. This was one of the most striking things I have learned about the program--the faculty genuinely want to invest in you as a pediatrician and help you grow and become your fullest potential. And lastly, there are lots of opportunities to continue the academic side of medicine from teaching medical students to presenting research posters." Personal Information: Corrie enjoys backpacking- from the Olympics in Washington to the Dominican Republic she have slept in tents and climbed mountains. She believes that nothing, however, compares to the Tetons in Colorado. I like that we get to see patients with high acuity diseases or injuries. We see the most complicated congenital cardiac diseases that rival any academic institution in the country. Personal Information: Josh loves sports of all kinds. He will talk about or play almost any sport you can think of. He is generally a very quiet guy, unless the SF Giants are winning the world series or the US Women's soccer team is scoring last second goals to stave off elimination. Josh also loves fantasy sports, and is involved in 2-3 football, basketball, and baseball fantasy teams yearly. Goals and Accomplishments: Josh plans to apply for pediatric cardiology fellowship. Josh is involved in multiple research projects with the cardiology program here at Hope. What I like about Hope: "When I came here to do a rotation I knew Hope Children's stood out. Residents, faculty, and staff loved having students around and loved teaching. Now I like it even more because of the incredible attendings, friendly residents, large and diverse patient population, and oppurtunities for my future." Personal Information: Alicia grew up on the South Side of Chicago and married her high school sweetheart. She likes to travel with her older brother. As a free-standing Children's hospital and the second busiest pediatric program in Illinois, Hope has a great reputation for its diverse pathophysiology. The residents are such a close-knit group and it was apparent that the attendings enjoyed teaching. I also enjoy it's proximity to downtown Chicago."
